BROADWAY SLEEPS OUT

We went to 41st street to ask some questions, take some pictures, get some information and chat with Broadway actors about this charitable experience. What we found were people asleep on the street to raise awareness and money for the homeless youth served by Covenant House.

Barely noticeable, as a group sleeping on the sidewalk is an all too common occurance in NYC. It was quiet and a melancholy reminder of how desensitized we are to the tragedy of homelessness and food insecurity.

There was no media spectacle. No lights, cameras and conversation about the good they were doing. No banners or information table with literature, envelopes. baskets and a smiling ambassador. Not even a directional sign. Just a single guard to watch over the wonderful actors who gathered to raise $250k + for those in need...
